Wedding Dress

Finding your dream wedding dress can be a minefield, it’s probably the most expensive piece of clothing that you’ll ever purchase and whether you’ve been planning what you’ll wear on your wedding day since you were a little girl or you’ve got absolutely no idea…here are some wedding dress tips to help.

Collect your ideas together-

Print off ideas, make a pinterest board or make an album of photos on your phone to take along to your first fitting appointment. That way you’ll have a starting point to show what sort of designs you prefer.

Think about the season

Are you planning a winter wedding? Think about accessories to keep warm for a winter wedding. A shawl, fur wrap or even a little jacket can look really amazing and also keep out the chills in between having photos taken and can also give a different look to your images. The length of train can also make a difference, if you’re planning a winter wedding and will be heading outside for photographs you may not want a huge train that will be tricky to carry or might get wet/dirty. Short tea length dresses can also look amazing for a summer wedding.

Keep an open mind -

Many Brides tell me that the wedding dress they ended up buying was completely different from the one they’d envisaged wearing on their wedding day. Have some ideas but also be prepared to try on some different styles to find the perfect gown…you might be surprised.

Prepare! -

Once you’ve chosen your perfect wedding dress, time how long it takes to get it on! On the morning of the wedding, nothing makes a Bride more stressed than running late and I find people always underestimate how long it takes to get the dress on. You’ll need to get into your wedding day underwear, have a nervous wee, put on deodorant etc. If your dress is the style that laces up at the back, make sure whoever is helping you into your dress has practiced because it takes longer than you think and it takes even longer when nerves kick in!

There are so many beautiful Bridal boutiques, most are by appointment only so remember to book ahead. You can make it an exciting part of the wedding planning experience by inviting along your bridesmaids, Mum and Mum in Law to be….whoever you like. Alternatively you might decide to take just one person and keep it a secret so that you can do a big reveal on your wedding day….just make sure you let your photographer know so we can capture it!
